LILY THORNTON

Lily Thornton is a classically trained cellist who completed her Master’s degree at the Royal College of Music after graduating with honours from the University of Melbourne, where she received multiple awards including the Gwen Proctor Violoncello Prize and the Katherine Kearns Travelling Scholarship. She has held prominent orchestral positions, including principal cellist roles with the Melbourne University Symphony Orchestra and the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra, and has participated in masterclasses with leading ensembles and musicians internationally.

As an active session musician and performer based between London and Melbourne, Lily has contributed to recordings for albums, films, and documentaries, including BBC Four’s Treasures of Ancient Rome, as well as projects for NAXOS and Sony PlayStation. Her diverse career spans live television performances, collaborations with artists such as John Farnham, Mark Vincent, and Olly Murs, and orchestral and chamber work under renowned conductors. She has also worked in film, including as cello double and teacher for Kaya Scodelario, and continues to maintain a dynamic career across performance, recording, and education.
